Dangerous Remedy is a Cleverly written book. It is action packed from the very first page. It revolves around the French Revolution. Following a rag tag team of individuals called “The Battalion of the Dead”, their aim is to help people, to cheat death of the guillotine. They try to do what they think is right. Stuck between the French Revolutionists and the Royalists, who both seem to have extremes in their views.
Camille and her team are hired to break a young prisoner out of the Conciergerie Prison. They soon realised they’ve been duped into thinking it was a simple rescue mission, when in truth it is far from just that. They determine that they must keep Olympe, the young prisoner, safe at all costs. Even though it causes rifts in the team. Olympe holds a great power, one no one can explain. Ada, tries to understand through her love and interest in science.
I feel Kat Dunn has achieved a masterpiece in Dangerous Remedy. It is an addictive, diverse read. Full of intrigue, and insight into 18th century France. It achieves twists and turns you may not see coming, I certainly didn’t anticipate the ones at the end. I am really looking forward to reading the sequel, which I wish I didn’t have to wait long for!
So overall, Dangerous Remedy is a book you’ll want to read if you like historical, young adult fiction, with awesome badass diverse main characters, and some darkness in the form of gore, murder and human experimentations sprinkled on top for good measure.
